Restoration efforts to bring back oak savannas is being done by LBL staff. 300 miles of undeveloped shoreline along Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley provide views of large expanses of open water. Nearly 200 miles of hiking trails are available for day and overnight trips.
Wildlife to Watch: Nearly all regularly occurring birds in Tennessee can be found at LBL at appropriate times of the year. Waterfowl can be seen in very large numbers, in addition loons are common in winter. Bald Eagles are common nesting birds. In January and February, eagle tours are offered as large numbers of wintering and local birds are seen simultaneously.
