Site Directions: From I-24, take Hwy 79 west for 37 miles through Clarksville and Dover to the southern entrance. Turn right on the Trace and continue 3 miles to the visitors center.

Site Description: The majority of the 170,000 acre (64,000 acres in Tennessee) complex is forested. Restoration efforts to bring back oak savannas is being done by LBL staff. 300 miles of undeveloped shoreline along Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley provide views of large expanses of open water. Nearly 200 miles of hiking trails are available for day and overnight trips.
Wildlife to Watch: Nearly all regularly occurring birds in Tennessee can be found at LBL at appropriate times of the year. Waterfowl can be seen in very large numbers, in addition loons are common in winter. Bald Eagles are common nesting birds. In January and February, eagle tours are offered as large numbers of wintering and local birds are seen simultaneously.
